Your Garden
Your Sunshine Coast Garden!

If you have a Sunshine Coast garden you are one of the lucky ones. We live in a great climate for growing vegetables, flowers or herbs, and gardens bring peace to the soul, and quietness to the mind. Your love may be flowers, or shrubs, or herbs or vegetables. Or perhaps all of those together.

First of all gardening is fun, and great exercise! Modern easy garden methods have taken much of the hard work out of gardening, but left in all the pleasures. Growing plants using simple organic principles has also taken away the need to use strong pesticides and herbicides.

It used to be that to have a good garden, you had to have rows of vegetables standing in line like little soldiers. You didn’t dare have a weed anywhere, you had all bare, cleanly raked soil in between the plants. Most of the weekend was spent weeding, hoeing and digging. Well, the good news is that you don’t need to do it like that anymore!

Using basic organic gardening principles, that are now used by growers all over the world, it’s easy to grow fruit, vegetables, flowers, and even timber plantations!

I heard organic gardening recently described as "enterprise bargaining", in our case entering into an agreement with the other creatures in the garden. Basically the agreement is that you will provide a safe chemical-free haven for your "workers", and they will help you look after your garden.

For example, if you have an insect problem, you don’t call in the Ghost-Busters, you call in the Insect-Busters, a frog or a lizard. They love eating insects! So do small bats. If you provide a suitable habitat for worms in your soil, they will dig your garden for you! If you spray poison for aphids, you will kill off the ladybirds that eat aphids, and the worms that dig your garden.

You can use mulch to prevent weeds from growing, even use living mulch, which are ground hugging plants that smother weeds, and provide a home for creatures which actively work for you in your garden. Organic gardening is all about striking a balance with nature’s workers, and working with nature, not against it. That is what takes away the hard work, let nature do the work for you!

If you would like to find out more, we can send you away on little journeys into cyberspace, to find out more about nature, more about gardens, and more about the little creatures that will help you in your garden.  Click below for much more gardening info!
